Susan Koblin Schear founded ARTISIN®, LLC in 1995 to offer comprehensive business development and management services for the arts and culture.  She brings more than twenty years of for profit and nonprofit management expertise to this venture, benefiting arts, culture and historic organizations, artists, and arts related businesses. Ms. Schear focuses on serving artists to augment the business side of their art career; her passion for the arts, in combination with her expertise in understanding the challenges of an artist, allows her to closely help her clients with career self-assessment, planning, goal setting, portfolio development, marketing and promotion, business planning, time management and being valued as an artist.  Ms. Schear promotes hiring and working with professionals such as attorneys, accountants, financial planners, insurance agents and banking experts, while making sure that she is her client’s advocate and sounding board.  She provides the opportunity for artists “to balance both sides of the scale”, artist and businessperson.

As an active board trustee, Ms. Schear serves on the boards of the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), Urban Glass, and GlassRoots, a program teaching at-risk youth of Newark, NJ, glassblowing and entrepreneurship. She is the chair of the steering committee for the Arts and Business Council, National Arts Marketing Project/New York, and serves on the National Program Steering Committee for NAMP.  She has recently been asked to participate on a newly developed New York Foundation for the Arts advisory committee, New York Creates.  She has also been invited as a steering committee member for Cultural Tourism, Office of the Queens Borough President.  Focusing on “Saving Arts and Culture in New Jersey”, Susan is a member of a Bergen County Planning and Advocacy committee.  She serves as a member of the advisory board of the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers.  Ms. Schear also serves on various funding and grant panels for both arts organizations and artists, including the JP Morgan Chase Regrant Program.  She is a member of ArtTable as well as other arts and business-networking organizations. 

Ms. Schear is an established speaker, moderator and facilitator on many subjects related to arts organizations, artists, and arts related entrepreneurs, including business planning, marketing and planning, branding, collaboration and alliances, and leadership and team building.  She will begin teaching a specifically designed business-planning course for artists through a newly developed initiative, the LaGuardia Incubator Project at LaGuardia Community College; she has also developed a specific course, “The Artist as Entrepreneur” for American Woman’s Economic Development Corporation.  She currently teaches Leadership and Teambuilding at Pratt University Graduate Program, and has taught at New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Marketing and Management Institute, and Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.).  In addition, she has developed workshops and seminars for the Arts and Business Council New York, Support Center for Nonprofit Management, Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZ), Center for Nonprofit Resources, New Jersey Small Business Development Centers, American Woman's Economic Development Corporation (AWED), and National Academy School of Fine Arts.
